Dead Boring – A Light Comedy About Sex in the Afterlife

Dead Boring is an amusing and entertaining short film created by students studying at the Australian Film, Television & Radio School. Having been shot in stereoscopic 3D, Dead Boring is one of the first productions of its kind to be completed in Australia.

The official Dead Boring website promises – a light comedy about death, love and sex in the afterlife’s. The movie centres around a ghost called Dawn who has been stranded in a derelict hotel all alone with no one to haunt, for many decades. All Dawn wants is someone to pass the time with and she finally gets her wish when a handsome man called Tommy unsuspectingly enters her afterlife.

Tommy is an ageing rock star with little on his mind beyond drugs and sex with attractive naive groupies. His career as a musician is failing fast but he continues to live the rock n roll dream and he no longer cares what other people think of him. One day whilst out looking for fun, Tommy and his latest squeeze fatefully break into ?‚àö√ë‚àö‚â§Lost Pleasures Retreat’s, the abandoned hotel where Dawn resides.

Dawn is a fun and spirited ghost who killed herself in 1932 when she was jilted by her fiancé on the day of her wedding. Her time as a ghost has been long, lonesome and friendless and when Tommy arrives at the house he awakens in her unfulfilled sexual desires, and she is uncontrollably drawn to him.

Dawn kills Tommy in the hope that she will secure an eternity-long companion, but things fail to go to plan when Tommy resents his premature death. Tommy did not want to die, and furthermore, he certainly does not want to spend perpetuity with the woman who killed him. He does his best to avoid her, but despite the animosity, Dawn is determined to win him over.

Dead Boring tells the tale of two lonely people desperately in need of love, who learn to embrace friendship and intimacy.

This comical short was created in both 2D and stereoscopic 3D and was written and directed by Dave Edwardz. The Sydney based filmmaker felt that a 3D format would help enhance the ghost effects and would therefore be good for the films story line. ‘We fundamentally believed that the 3D would create a more immersive audience experience that replicated the lonely world of the characters’ Edwardz states.
