2K Games reunited with digital creative agency, ROKKAN, to redesign and relaunch their official site – www.2kgames.com. The goal of the new site was to provide a seamless intersection of games, news and community. At the cornerstone of this creative process was a key objective – staying true to 2K Games’ brand and pushing the limits of interactive entertainment like no other in the industry.
“Our mission was to create a unique site that was completely different from 2K Games’ competitors. Everything, down to the page layout, use of images, animation, and GUI, stands out from the sea of video game publisher websites,” said Charles Bae, Executive Creative Director of ROKKAN.
ROKKAN and 2K Games have successfully collaborated over the past five years, including developing critically acclaimed sites for such titles as BioShock¬¨¬®‚àö√ú, BioShock¬¨¬®‚àö√ú2, and Sid Meier’s Civilization¬¨¬®‚àö√ú Revolution?‚àö√´¬¨¬¢. Starting with the homepage redesign, a gaming and news destination was created for existing users and newcomers alike. A hybrid of Flash and HTML, the site’s exploration is both interactive and entertaining while easily navigable and informative, making www.2kgames.com the perfect combination of form and function.
ROKKAN is in the process of creating a one-step registration process to provide access to the forums and all other community elements. “Community members treasure their usernames,” added Bae. “We wanted to let forum users carry their same identity to 2K Games’ new site.”
Launched in early 2010, www.2kgames.com will continue to add new community features during Phase 2 of development as more users visit the site. John Noe, ROKKAN’s CEO, believes that projects like this are why he prioritizes long-term client relationships, which are often built on shared corporate values. In this case, both companies have built their reputations by focusing on the quality of their work rather than the quantity.
“We make sure that we feel like a part of their team, and not some agency that’s working separate from them,” concluded Noe, “We’re in it for the long-haul.”
