X-MEN Origins – Wolverine, is set approximately twenty years before the time of X-MEN, and focuses on both the violent and romantic past of the character of Wolverine. The story follows Wolverine’s early encounters with William Stryker and also his complex relationship with Victor Creed.
In X-MEN Origins – Wolverine, Hugh Jackman reprises the role that made him an international superstar. Fans will be thrilled to see the return of the fierce fighting mutant with incredible healing powers and retractable claws.
The film takes us up to the events prior to X-MEN, and allows us entry to the world of the ominous Weapon X programme. Along the way, Wolverine encounters many mutants, both familiar and new, including some pleasing manifestations by several legends of the X-MEN universe, whose appearances in the film series have long been anticipated.
Directed by Gavin Hood, X-MEN Origins – Wolverine has a different feel to the other films in the X-MEN series. Hood apparently focused the film’s theme on Wolverine’s inner struggle between his animalistic savagery and noble human qualities.
“I think his great appeal lies in the fact that he’s someone who in some ways, is filled with a great deal of self-loathing by his own nature and he’s constantly at war with his own nature.” Hood comments.
X-MEN Origins – Wolverine is due for release on 1 May 2009.
