Umlaut Welcomes Designer/Graphics Artist Ivan Miller

San Francisco Editorial company, Umlaut, has expanded its team with the addition of Designer/ Motion Graphics Artist Ivan Miller. Miller will also handle all finishing, compositing and visual effects work, and has already contributed to campaigns for Comcast, Scion, 24 Hour Fitness and Saturn. He recently created graphics for a viral campaign for Sprite. The company also represents Editors Jean Kawahara, Ed Feldman, Jessica Congdon and Nathan Petty.

Jennifer Suttlemyre, General Manager of Umlaut, says, “Ivan is a very talented, and very technical guy. He is a perfect fit here. His talents heighten the level of service that we can provide to individual projects, as well as keep the workflow seamless. We are very lucky to have convinced him to give up the freelance life to become a part of Umlaut.”

“I’ve known the Umlaut team for a while and felt the time and opportunity was right to join a company after years of freelancing,” says Miller. “I look forward to the collaboration with the editors to flesh out ideas and make them shine. This is also an opportunity for me to do more VFX and finishing, which is what I’ve been wanting to do, and to move ahead as part of this cool company.”

Before joining Umlaut, Ivan Miller was most recently freelancing on graphics work directly for ad agencies including TBWAChiatDay, Foote, Cone & Belding, McCann-Erickson, and Digitas.

Miller graduated from UC Santa Cruz with a degree in Fine Art and landed his first job at Los Angeles-based agency The Westin Group where he gained a background in typography. Shortly thereafter, he discovered his love for postproduction and computer animation. Miller got his start in post in LA before moving to San Francisco in 2000.

He landed at Bob n’ Sheila’s Edit World as a Motion Graphics Artist/Designer, and first met Gina LoCurcio and Jennifer Suttlemyre, then an Executive Producer and VFX Producer, respectively. There, Miller’s work included spots for Toyota, Oakland A’s, California Culinary Academy, Sprint, Microsoft, eBay, SBC, Kodak, Half.com, and EA Games.
