The Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami (MOCA), celebrated POP 007, Saturday, February 10, with a James Bond-themed casino night and silent auction with all proceeds benefiting MOCA Permanent Collection Acquisition Fund. For the evening, which brought together 800 movers and shakers, patrons and the aficionados who make up the Miami art community, ZONA Design, the New York-based, full service design agency, created a linear 60 foot by 10 foot video installation, the event marketing, identity, design and signage.
Led by President/Creative Director/Designer Zoa Martinez, herself a celebrated pop artist whose sculptures and paintings have been exhibited at the Lowe Art Museum (Miami), the ZONA Design team created materials including a save-the-date card, an invitation, the program, signage for the event, and branded the museum fa?ßade with ZONA POP 007 graphics.
‘With my team, I created a classic piece of POP art for POP 007. For the MOCA marketing campaign we wanted to create in all mediums. Starting with an iconic Bond image that was painted on the museum fa?‚àö√ºade and created an identity that captured the essence of the event, we carried this element throughout the print, web and collateral materials. For the videowall installation, with ZONA ?‚àö√ë‚àö‚â§design made to move’s philosophy, we juxtaposed our fictitious Bond-like character, and seven video monitors, with horizontal geometry that ran the length of the approximately 60-foot long wall,’ explained Zoa Martinez.
Lourdes Jofre-Collett, a MOCA Trustee and Co-Chair of POP 007 stated, ‘I asked only for an invitation but Zoa produced a full-blown visual concept for our event ?‚àö√ë‚àö¬® from print and online materials to the Museum fa?‚àö√ºade and interior signage and video installation. ZONA branding materials opened doors and provided entr?¬¨¬©e to sponsors who had previously eluded us. The quality of the marketing materials made visible the size and scope of our event. Zoa is an artist whose art carried so much force that even our patrons, who are purists, understood at once the commercial effectiveness of the materials but also appreciated them as art in and of themselves.’
MOCA Director and Chief Curator Bonnie Clearwater added, ‘Zoa concept really elevated the Museum and the POP party to another level because of its sophistication and the originality of the graphics. She captured the excitement of the event and conveyed it to our potential donors. The concept has been carried through on every aspect of this event from the save-the-date card, the invitation, and signage to the outside of the Museum. Right now the POP 007 logo and graphics are painted on one whole building facing a busy thoroughfare. Our Mayor likes it so much he asked if we could keep it up for awhile.’
In addition to Creative Director/Designer Zoa Martinez, ZONA team included Executive Producer Dennis Fluet, Designer Mark Lee, Photographer Youngha Park, 3D Animator Timothy Clark, Animator and Editor Supara Sophonwasu and Animator Andre Sam. ZONA utilized Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop in the execution of this project.
Representing MOCA, North Miami were Director and Chief Curator Bonnie Clearwater, Trustee and Co-Chair of POP 007 Lourdes Jofre-Collett and Director of Fundraising Monisha Underhill.
The 4th annual MOCA POP 007 was supported by Diamond sponsors Giorgio Armani, Sofia and Mike Segal, Stanford Group Company and South Beach Investment Realty Inc./Diane and Alan Lieberman; Other sponsors included Diageo (BV/Beaulieu Vineyard, Sterling Vineyards, Moet Chandon), Bacardi (Grey Goose Vodka), Sonesta Hotels and Diana and Louis Jaffe.
