The Orphanage Helps Rodriguez & Tarantino’s Grindhouse

The Orphanage, Inc. announced today that its Visual Effects and Animation division successfully completed 141 out of 461 visual effect shots for Dimension Films’s highly anticipated double feature GRINDHOUSE by directors Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino. Visual Effects Supervisor Ryan Tudhope headed up The Orphanage team with Marc Sadeghi as the Executive Producer in charge of Production, Arin Finger as Producer and Mike Janov as Computer Graphics Supervisor. Over 60 visual effects artists completed the work, which included hard surface modeling and animation, advanced compositing and extensive CG gore, blood and flesh deformations.

Grindhouse, which will open nationwide today, April 6, will be presented as one full-length feature comprised of two individual films helmed separately by each director. Tarantino’s film, Death Proof, is a rip-roaring slasher flick where the killer pursues his victims with a car rather than a knife, while Rodriguez’s film explores an alien world eerily familiar to ours in Planet Terror.

Marc Sadeghi from The Orphanage remarks: ‘The Orphanage has had an extremely successful working relationship with Troublemaker Studios, Elizabeth Avell?¬¨‚àûn and Robert Rodriguez for both their family and adult fare. Having the opportunity to collaborate again with them and another independently-minded icon of the film industry at the same time was extremely gratifying.’

Planet Terror marks the fourth consecutive film collaboration between Robert Rodriguez and The Orphanage (Spy Kids 3-D, The Adventures of Sharkboy & Lavagirl in 3-D and Sin City). Tudhope remarks: ‘We are once again grateful to Robert and all the folks at Troublemaker for the opportunity to contribute to this film. Planet Terror presented a wide array of visual effects challenges and that is why working with Robert is such an amazing experience. Every film he creates is a new, unique adventure for everyone involved.”

Death Proof is The Orphanage first visual effects endeavor with Quentin Tarantino. Tudhope adds, ‘We could not have been more excited about our involvement. There is no doubt our work took a supporting role to the amazing practical and in-camera effects that Quentin and his team were able to achieve on set. We are thrilled to have worked with such a talented team.”

Elizabeth Avell?°n, Robert Rodriguez, Quentin Tarantino and Erica Steinberg are producing Grindhouse which is set for theatrical release today, April 6, 2007.
