Animal Logic Wins Vision Prize for ‘Happy Feet’

Digital Vision, a leading developer of advanced digital media applications specialising in film and video solutions, is delighted to announce that this year Vision Prize goes to Eric Whipp, Head Colorist at Animal Logic in Sydney. Eric was presented with the award due to his work on Academy Award winning feature Happy Feet. Last year winner of the award was also for an Oscar winner and went to Hollywood-based DI facility, iO Film for its use of the Film Master on Crash.

The Vision Prize is presented to exceptional individuals and/or companies who have shown the most creative and innovative use of Digital Vision equipment in the previous year. Happy Feet was a very difficult movie to grade, since the main characters are animated black and white penguins working against a mostly white background. Whipp made extensive use of the Film Master capabilities, including unlimited layers and the ability to directly import animation masks, in his grade, which resulted in a colourful, powerful result that helped George Miller, the film director, tell his story more effectively.

The 2007 Vision Award was presented by Simon Cuff, Digital Vision President and Chief Operating Officer. “We are delighted to see Film Master being used at the cutting edge of cinema like this,” he commented. “Eric work on Happy Feet produced some stunning results on-screen, and we are proud to have been able to provide him with the tools that made the film such a memorable experience for audiences worldwide.”

One of the world’s most highly respected digital production companies, Animal Logic produces award-winning design, animation and visual effects solutions for the film, television and advertising industries. The company has a studio in Sydney, Australia and a production office in Los Angeles.
