The Colonie Adds Editor Erich Wiemer To Its Roster of Talent

The Colonie has announced that it is representing award-winning creative editor Erich Wiemer in the Chicago and Detroit markets. The new association with the Detroit-based cutter creatively fortifies the editorial, visual effects and motion graphics company’s diverse in-house staff and helps meet the needs of the increasing number of agencies and brands that call on its services.

“We were impressed with Erich from the moment we met with him,” says partner/editor Brian Sepanik. “He’s a multi-talented editor with a strong point of view, skilled at cutting content in various genres, from spots to music videos and long-form branded content, as well as films.

Erich is an exceptional talent.

The new association marks the first time that The Colonie has cast a net outside the Chicago area, and drawn from a larger pool of the industry’s best talent. Wiemer will work on projects both in Chicago and Detroit, enabling The Colonie to take on a broader range of creative work coming out of these regions.

“We expected an editor from Detroit to have great car work, and Erich certainly does, but he really is the whole package,” says Colonie EP and partner, Mary Caddy. “We were very impressed with his dialogue, visual effects, and design work, as well as his foray into directing. He’s just a great storyteller, and he shares our team’s passion for our craft, which makes him a great fit with The Colonie.”

Wiemer had been a creative editor at Beast/Detroit until they closed their doors earlier this year, and continues to be a sought-after cutter in his hometown. Among his editing credits are spots for a variety of brands, such as Owens Corning, Jeep, USAA, Toyota and Chevy’s cross-promotion with ‘Transformer 4,’ directed by Michael Bay. His long-form projects include the feature films, ‘When We Went MAD,’ (Director: Alan Bernstein),which is currently in production. He made his foray into directing with the feature film,’Meet Me at the Lindell,’ which he co-directed with an agency creative director, Jason Danielewicz.

“The Colonie enables me to maintain a reach across markets,” says Wiemer. “As an artist, I’ve always been impressed by the work coming out of Chicago, and The Colonie was an obvious place to start. The moment I walked through the doors I felt the company had an inviting artist-driven culture, and its team had a shared love for storytelling. I’m overjoyed to be part of its team and help build on their already amazing brand.”

Wiemer’s spot work has received a number accolades, including top honors as the AICE with a Best of Detroit award for ‘Easy,’ (Owens Corning) as well as AICE finalist and D-show winner for ‘They Said’ (Detroit vs Everybody).

“Erich is an exceptional talent,” adds editor and partner Bob Ackerman. “The Colonie’s association with him makes us a stronger creative resource and enables the company to provide the kind of firepower that the Chicago market demands.”
