motion 2016 Speakers & Performers Announced
ALBUQUERQUE | SANTA FE – motion 2016 – the un-conference – has announced details of its 2016 event, which returns to Santa Fe, NM from June 9-11.
The event will feature two plus days of innovative talks, by leading creatives and industry figures including Imaginary Forces founding member and Director, Karin Fong; Chris Do founder and CEO of Blind; visionary FUI designer Jayse Hansen; Timmy Fisher, artist and co-founder of MK12; Elliott Chaffer Executive Creative Director at Trollbäck + Company, and over a dozen more.
“motion 2016 marks our 10th anniversary”, explains Elaine Montoya, co-founder of the event. “In celebration, we’re going all out to make this year’s show our best ever. From hand selected challengers participating in this year’s FACEOFF alongside live entertainment by Los Angeles talent, Dj Cruze – to talks and panels featuring the who’s who in motion design, animation and vfx – it’s going to be spectacular.”
Once again, CURRENTS – The International New Media Festival has partnered with motion, providing world class multimedia performances and exhibitions, innovative interactive experiences, and cutting edge installations created by internationally renowned artists from around the globe.
For the third year in a row, Michael Waldron, Creative Director of Art + Design at TV Land in NYC, will be directing The Exquisite Corpse Project – a unique collaboration of select motion designers and animators from around the world.
“To honor the 10th anniversary of motion, I’ve invited speakers from the past 10 years of motion to participate in the project,” said Waldron.
“Michael has been an integral part of motion since it’s early years,” said Montoya. “Directing and producing The Exquisite Corpse Project for the past two years, and now creating the 10th anniversary edition – is a gift like none other. I am not only excited to see this year’s result – I am truly grateful. Not only to Michael, but to all of the past motion speakers who have agreed to participate in the project.”
Continuing the celebration, the motion After Party will take place at Meow Wolf – a unique venue opening March 2016 in Santa Fe.
“Meow Wolf combines the art of storytellling, technology and art, taking entertainment, and experiential journeys to a whole new level”, explained Montoya. “motion attendees will be able to experience The House of Eternal Return first hand, while enjoying multimedia entertainment by Greg Walters (Tiny Victories) and Brian Bowman (Trollbäck + Company); and Brazilian analogue synth artist Paulo Beto, aka Anvil FX.”
motion is an annual gathering of creative thinkers and visionary artists. Known as a ‘unique un-conference for the rest of us’, the event consists of two days + three nights jam-packed with talks that inspire, breakdowns that explore the creative process behind projects, premiere movies, amazing parties and unheard of networking opportunities. Because attendance is limited to 200, it’s easy to rub elbows with some of the most talented people in the industry.
motion brings together motion designers, filmmakers, animators, VFX artists, writers, directors, editors, composers, graphic designers, musicians, new media artists, storytellers – people who strive to be on the forefront of innovation.
Additional confirmed speakers include: Greg Gunn, Creative Director at Blind; Director & DP Joel Pilger, Creative Director Brian Bowman from Trollbäck + Company, founder and Creative Director of State Design, Marcel Ziul; Alberto Scirocco, founder and Creative Director at leftchannel and filmmaker, motion designer and VFX artist Gregory Herman. Challengers in this year’s FACEOFF :: The After Effects Challenge will be announced in upcoming weeks.
