California Inspires Me: Mark Mothersbaugh

In this beautifully animated documentary, Barcelona based studio Manson, visually brings to life an interview with Devo lead singer Mark Mothersbaugh. The interview begins with Mothersbaugh’s first visit to the optometrist at age seven. Mark is legally blind.

It was the most incredible day and the most incredible feeling of my life, when we left the optometrist and I saw what a roof of a house looked like, and I saw smoke coming out of chimneys and I saw telephone wires.

Mothersbaugh goes on to share how he despised music lessons – until he saw The Beatles perform on TV, and how Devo got its name.

Manson is a diverse group of artists working together in a range of different media, involving live-action video and animation.
