The thing about animation is that there are absolutely no rules.
– Bob Godfrey, Veteran British Animator
Animation was around a long time before I was born. As a “Boomer” I grew up with cartoons – lots of them. Saturday was my favorite day. My brother and I woke up at the crack of dawn ready to spend an adventure filled morning with Felix the Cat, Popeye, Bugs Bunny, The Road Runner, Rocky & Bullwinkle and …Magilla Gorilla. I had a love hate relationship with Magilla Gorilla, as kids loved to tease – calling me “Padilla Gorilla”. But I digress.
And then there were our family night outings at the neighborhood drive-in theater. I could barely contain my excitement waiting to see the cartoon screening before the main feature.
Animated characters became my friends…and my heroes. Snoopy was my favorite. Sure, by this time there was an animated beaver, rabbit, robot, and assorted birds – but from my perspective, they paled in comparison. Snoopy ruled. Joe Cool.
